Equipe de rugby d'Ecosse

L'histoire du rugby national écossais commence en 1871, quand la sélection nationale affronte et bat l'équipe d'Angleterre dans le premier match international de rugby à XV à Raeburn Place. Depuis, le rugby est un sport roi en Ecosse, qui malgré le nombre restreints de licenciés, reste une nation majeure du rugby mondial.

Le XV du Chardon a notamment remporté 14 fois seul le Tournoi des VI Nations et a participé à toutes les phases finales de la Coupe du Monde.

Les Écossais jouent en maillot bleu marine et blanc avec un chardon sur le cœur, avec un short bleu et des chaussettes bleues. Cependant la tenue traditionnelle est un maillot bleu marine, un short blanc et des chaussettes bleues.

L'emblème du XV d'Écosse est bien sûr le chardon, l'un des symboles nationaux de l'Écosse. Selon la légende, des guerriers écossais sont sauvés d'une attaque nocturne des Danois quand ceux-ci trébuchent sur des chardons et crient de douleur, alertant les veilleurs.

Depuis 1980 The Flower of Scotland (Flùir na h-Alba en gaélique écossais) replace God Save The Queen comme hymne du XV d'Ecosse.
